On April 30, 2026, Ukraine’s National Police served a notice of suspicion under Article 438 of the Criminal Code to a russian prisoner of war accused of repeatedly raping a resident of a village in Donetsk region over a two-month period.
Who is the suspect
According to the Book of Executioners information, the suspect is Serhey Karpilovich, born on January 20, 1975, a native of the village of Motko in Karelia, russia.
He served as a rifleman in the 114th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 42038) of the 51st Combined Arms Army of russia’s Southern Military District.
According to investigators, he signed a military contract to fight against Ukraine while serving a prison sentence in a penal colony.
Case details
In September 2025, Karpilovich entered the village of Zolotyi Kolodiazh in Pokrovsk district as part of a small infantry group.
According to the investigation, he and two other russian soldiers broke into the basement of a private home where two civilians — a man and a woman — were sheltering from shelling. The armed troops remained there and used the basement as a temporary base.
During one of the attacks, the local man was killed, leaving the 58-year-old woman alone with the occupiers.
Investigators say that in early October, Karpilovich began raping the woman, warning her that he would not tolerate refusal or resistance because of his criminal background and that he could kill her.
After that, according to the case materials, he raped her every night for two months.
In December 2025, Ukrainian forces captured Karpilovich during a counteroffensive operation, ending the abuse.
Charges
Karpilovich is suspected of cruel treatment of civilians under Part 1 of Article 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.
Investigators say his actions violated the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War and Additional Protocol I, and constitute a war crime under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
