Date:
September 12, 2022
Place:
Oskil, Kharkiv region
Circumstances:
On September 12, 2022, in order to prevent the unimpeded advance of Ukrainian troops, the occupiers mined and blew up the shield of the first gate and the road overlap between the Oskil HPP building and the gallery of stationary mechanisms with engineering means. Between September 13 and September 30, 2022, the occupiers continued to carry out air strikes on the Oskilska dam in order to cause additional or complete destruction of the dam to allow for a faster outflow of water from the reservoir.
Casualties.
There were no casualties or injuries.
Damage:
The Oskil dam was destroyed, and an uncontrolled volley of water leaked out, causing the Oskil reservoir to virtually cease to exist (losing up to 70% of its water), and the coastal zone downstream was flooded. Catastrophic changes occurred in the natural and anthropogenic ecosystem of the Siverskyi Donets River.
