On March 10, 2026, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine imposed sanctions on russian judges who illegally sentenced prisoners of war. This was reported on the website of the President of Ukraine and in Decree No. 232/2026.

The sanctions package includes 41 judges, 38 of whom are russian citizens and three are collaborators. They issued illegal sentences against prisoners of war and publicly supported and justified russian aggression against Ukraine.

In particular, a russian judge who sentenced nine Ukrainian prisoners of war in fabricated terrorism cases within a single week is among those under sanctions. Ukraine also imposed sanctions on former Ukrainians who sentenced captured volunteers to death in temporarily occupied Donetsk: two Britons and one Moroccan who defended Ukraine as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and were captured by russia.

Among the sanctioned judges are also those who have issued illegal rulings against public figures, activists, and journalists because of their political or religious beliefs.
